The popular BL (boys’ love) manga “Sempura: My Partner Is My Best Friend and Sometimes Lover” (センプラ 相方が親友で時どき恋人) is being adapted into a vertical short drama exclusively distributed on DMM TV’s new service “DMM Shorts” starting January 6, 2026.

The story focuses on the relationship between two members of a comedy duo called Sempura (short for Century Plant):

Yutaro Nagasaki, a cheerful and outgoing comedian played by Yuto Ishikawa,

Shusaku Takei, his laid-back and poker-faced partner played by Moto Nosuke.

After a year of not speaking to each other outside of work, Yutaro sets up a fake breakup prank to test their bond. The prank unexpectedly leads to an emotional moment where Takei tearfully confesses his romantic feelings for Yutaro. To preserve both their friendship and the comedy partnership, Yutaro proposes that they act as if they are a couple only when they are in Takei’s room: inside the room they are lovers, but outside they remain friends and partners.

The drama is being released as a 30-episode vertical short format series and presents a blend of comedy, secret romance, and the emotional tension between friendship, professional partnership, and love. Additional cast includes fellow comedians in the duo’s circle, and the series highlights the cast’s challenge of portraying the subtle mix of feelings and comedy timing unique to the genre.
