Japanese Vertical Short Series: #死んだ兄の親友を拾いました (I Picked Up My Dead Brother’s Best Friend)
This is a BL story with a heart-healing tone, lightly touched with fantasy, and layered with quiet emotional depth. At first glance, it might seem like a simple tale—but through subtle dialogue, symbolism, and open-ended interpretation, it gradually unveils a soft yet lingering sense of melancholy. The storytelling is surprisingly profound in how it conveys its emotions. 😌
The plot follows Taku Shika, a high school student who happens upon a man seemingly about to jump off a bridge. Without hesitation, Taku rushes over, hugs the man tightly, and yells out, “This bridge is too low!” 😂 (As if to say, you wouldn’t even die, maybe just get a few bruises.)
That man is Mitsuru, seemingly older and always carrying a sketchbook with drawings of a certain location in the prefecture. He claims he’s looking for that place. With no home or money, Mitsuru ends up being offered a place to stay by Taku—just for one night. Then a second. Then a third… and soon, he still hasn’t left.
One day, Taku makes a shocking discovery: Mitsuru was once the best friend of his late older brother, Harumi.
